Today we learned a very important thing. So important that we have to share with all of you. This is not a joke, but the story does end well.
We learned tat if you are an almost four year old, and you want to take the dogs for a walk in the backyard, and though you think it would be a good idea to put their leashes on, it is not a good idea to put the loop handle over their necks instead of clipping the clippy part to their collars.
If you do succeed in putting the loop handles over both dogs' necks, just know that even though the dogs will be able to breath just fine, they will not like it at all and if you try to take the leashes off, they will not come off easily.
Not even if you get your Mommy to help.
Not even if your Mommy bribes the dogs with cheese.
Not even if she gets the leather leashes wet (and the dogs wet and uses doggy shampoo to see if the soap would help) and tries to stretch them.
Not even if she calls the barking palace and asks their advice for how to get the leashes off easily without hurting the dogs.
In the end, the leashes will have to be cut off.
And though you might not get in trouble for putting the leashes on the dogs like that in the first place, you will be asked not to ever do it again. And your Daddy might say that it might be better to have unlooped leashes for awhile so that the dogs don't have to go through that again.
As for the dogs, they were not harmed (unless you consider a surprise bath undue harm), but they were a bit nervous. They are ok now. They are drying off from their bath outside, away from little girls who were only trying to be helpful and have eaten some extra dog treats for their troubles. I know that two cut leashes is a small price to pay for two dogs who are completely fine after such an ordeal.

At least it was not a metal galvanized watering bucket that a dog of mine got stuck on her head :)
Tin snips were involved in the extrication of the bucket.

Ah yes, Bucket-Head Jorden. How well I recall that near doggie ER moment! In regard to Alexandra and her great learning experience, I am glad she, Maggie, Milo, and you made it through the ordeal. Those two dogs certainly love that girl or they would have never allowed her to put the leashes on in that manner! Cutting the leashing off is a small price for what could have been a great disaster. I think the lesson has been learned. Alex asked me if it was ok to walk the dogs in the back yard with pretend leashes, which we decided was indeed ok.
Now, if we could just get Maggie to stop finding foul things to roll in... She's now had her second bath in less than a week.
